INSPIRATORY MUSCLE TRAINING | GUIDE

Benefits: Strengthens inspiratory breathing muscles and reduces the risk of getting post-operative pneumonia
Equipment: Threshold IMT trainer device and nose clip

Technique:

  1. Sit upright in a chair and apply the nose clip.
  2. Check that your resistance is set on the device.
  3. Close your lips around the mouthpiece. Keep a good seal with your lips throughout the exercises.
  4. Breathe slowly and rhythmically in and out through the device without removing it from your mouth.

Intensity & Duration:

  • Repeat up to 30 mins/day, 7 days/week.
